numpy and scipy

i'm trying out numpy and scipy (Python) instead of Octave.

Python is definitely better for general programming stuff than Octave (& MATLAB).

So far, it seems that Octave/MATLAB is a little better for numerical/matrixy stuff. Some specific issues with Python:

• Python operations on Numpy arrays sometimes return Numpy arrays, tuples, lists, or mixtures thereof. In Octave/MATLAB it's all matrices.
• In Octave/MATLAB, A * B is matrix multiplication, and A .* B is elementwise multiplication. In Numpy, you have to use dot(A,B)

but it seems like it is only a little worse for that. So, so far I think Numpy/Scipy/Python is better.
