Isaac Bonewits apparently wrote a nonfiction (in his opinion; i have not read the book and so cannot judge it) book on actual magic, called "Real Magic" (and another one much later called 'Real Energy', see http://paganpages.org/content/tag/real-magic/ ). He also wrote a book called 'Authentic Thaumaturgy' on magic and religion for role playing gamers giving ideas from real magic that could be applicable to in-game magic systems. In it he summarizes his postulated 'laws of magic' from his book Real Magic, and that excerpt is available on the web:

looking at these, my impression is that many of these laws would be shared by scientists, a few of them are sort of 'systems thinking' kind of observations, and a few of them would be strongly disagreed by scientists. It would be interesting to go thru them and take notes on which is which.
