Some people reject the Golden Rule but accept something similar; "do unto other as you would have done unto you, provided that you could see yourself in their place". So, for example, if someone does something they consider idiotic, for example, e.g. leave their house while the stove is on, and then something bad happens as a result, e.g. the house burns down, then they feel free to scorn the person, treat them badly, etc; it's true that if they were in that person's position they would not want to be treated that way, but they figure that they could never wind up in that position because they would never do such a stupid thing.

(I don't endorse this point of view, btw, I endorse a more classic version of the Golden Rule)
