seems kinda philosophical.
for instance, when a virus subverts a host cell, we like to think of the host cell either as a host cell in a special state of subversion, or as a body for the virus -- but we don't like to simultaineously consider it as the body of the virus, and ALSO part of the body of the host (although i think that maybe we should).
