so far it seems like org-mode does almost everything that other todo systems do. Why is org-mode lacking?
- ui (emacs) too complicated for most
- team functionality (mainly assigning, filtering for one's personal tasks, and dealing with conflicting edits)
- how do these other systems deal with conflicting edits, anyways? i bet they just overwrite with last edit
- markdown
- the ability to be easily exported into a text format that non-users can read (e.g. mdtd; but note that many other solutions also can't do this)
- web interface
- the software architecture of just dealing with the textual format directly seems lacking, and clearly makes the agenda views take too long -- wouldn't it be better to have the source of truth be a database?
- the issue with this is that org-mode tries hard to have your todo items just be sitting in a free-form manner within text -- remember that org-mode is also an outliner
- kanban view not as good
- calendar view
- gantt chart/timeline view
where do the other things fall down?
- not as expressive/flexible as org-mode
- not programmable
- not as fast
suggests that what is needed is less of a new tool, and more of a sync tool between org-mode and existing tools. But my past experience suggests that a new tool may be better
so what would be better than Asana would be something like org-mode, but:
- with a UI like Asana's (iOS, i guess) mobile UI (not desktop)
- Asana's Projects, Portfolios, Milestones, Approvals, Goals should just be Tasks
- with basic collab features
- with a little opinionating guiding the way Asana does
