You want to block off time on your calendar to get to your events; but you don't want to bother to create a separate event "on my way to X" for every event X; and if you just set the event time earlier than it is, you'll get in the habit of assuming that you can ignore the times on your calendar, which will sooner or later lead to you being late.

So, here's what i do: i sometimes set the event time earlier to account for travel time. but whenever i do this, i ALWAYS include the actual time in the event description. So, there will never be an ambiguous situation where i will think that an event start time includes travel time when it actually doesn't; either there is a time in the description, or the start time in the calendar is the actual start time.
