Boot it up, put in a sim card, plug it in (it's at 70% so it doesn't need to be plugged in immediately), sign in to wifi, sign in to my Google account. You can setup a fingerprint if you want.

Deny permission for most of the things it asks about (may we track location, etc; may Google Assistant track your location, etc). You can turn these on later from Settings if you want (on the initial permissions screen, if you click on the text for any permission, a box pops up that tells you where in Settings to find it).

install: dropbox firefox browser for android you can use Firefox Sync to sync bookmarks and tabs between your computer and your mobile; note: in order to do this you must have less than 5000 bookmarks; if you have too many, you can export your bookmarks, and then delete a bunch of ones that you don't want (the reason for the export is so that you can find the ones you deleted in case you ever want them again; keep this file around if you might want to do this); note: in my case i had over 5000 and i had to log out of my Firefox Account on both my desktop and mobile, then delete bookmarks on my desktop, and then re-sign up for my Firefox Account in order to clear the cloud sync data, and then log into the fresh account with the desktop, and then uninstall and reinstall firefox on the mobile and log in to the new Firefox Account, and then after it finished syncing to tell it to sync again, and then quit the firefox app on mobile and restart it in order to see the new bookmarks tools->add-ons->browse->search for ublock origin, and install signal private messenger (you may want to import old SMSs) simpletask (place widget on homescreen, filter settings: sort: (completed, priority, threshold date in future, due date, list, tag, threshold date, alphabetical, file order, creation date, etc), other: uncheck 'show tasks with threshold date in future', save (checkmark), title todo, then expand to 2x3, settings: appearance:task text ellipsizing->end, other->datestamp new tasks->false, notifications->calendar reminders->due dates true, notifications->calendar reminders->threshold dates true, other->append to file->false, create filter with other:'show tasks with threshold date in future' checked and pull out the right drawer and save it naming it 'show all') probably temporary bug workaround: adb shell pm grant nl.mpcjanssen.todotxtholo android.permission.READ_CALENDAR

to get the app BetterBatteryStats? to work, you have to do this: [4]. basically, install adb, enable USB debugging, connect to the phone with a USB cable, then execute (with sudo if on linux): adb -d shell pm grant com.asksven.betterbatterystats android.permission.BATTERY_STATS

Dropbox->Settings->turn on camera uploads

Setting->Developer options->automatic system updates->off : i was once in a sticky situation where i was traveling, at a train station i didn't know, everything had been rerouted due to construction, and i was about to miss the last train, and my phone was almost out of batteries so i had shut it down while i was traveling to the station and turned it back on when i needed it at the station to get directions, and then it automatically installed an update and took forever to reboot (also consuming more battery power than usual, i assume). So, i don't think automatic updates is a good idea.
