note: pbase rules out because of lack of API; instagram ruled out because you are supposed to upload from your phone; photobucket, picasa, imageshack, deviantart, phanfare, panoramio ruled out because not enough recent forum posts on dpreview mentioning them

paid: zenfolio $60/yr, unlimited, but does the 36 MB maximum file size apply to videos? smugmug $40/yr, unlimited

Facebook is said to have poor image quality.

the 'community', in terms of getting other photographers to see and critique your pictures, is supposedly best on flickr and 500px.

Zenfolio is said to have a better interface than smugmug, although less customizable. Both zenfolio and smugmug are supposed to be good for selling prints, but you need to be paying over $60/year to get the ability to do that there (too bad they don't offer the option to just take a cut for low-volume sellers).

500px.com, wonderful for posting your best work.

1x.com, higher end art photography in general. "
