Comments on opinions-political-budget

checked out that site. cool animation. nice presentation, pretty easy to digest. I dig the basic political ideas the dude is getting at. first thing I thought of tho: about military spending- you can't just look at the mil. spending of other major nations to make an argument for reducing ours.

don't get me wrong- I'm totally in favor of knocking ours down about 1/8 (which he suggests we do). I agree- let's put all that money into all those social programs as he reccommends. I don't know if I have a decent argument for cutting a pentagon budget tho. and I don't think it's as simple as looking at all the other major nations' mil. budgets, ya know?

last thing: I am a dreamer- politically, culturally, in other ways. there are a lotta lotta thingz that I would like to see change radically in the culture and in gov't in this country. so I have my idealist discourse & my more practical tac. all my above comments are starting more on the practical end cuz that's the way that ben coen seems to present it- as something doable. word. later, dude.

Yeah, it's true that a cross-country comparison isn't the final word, but I do think it's a good place to start. If our budget is much bigger than other countries with similar landmass/population, that should ring some alarm bells -- I think the burden of proof is then on the other side then to explain why we need such a bigger budget. Not to say there is no way that they could possibly justify that, but it is something that needs to be justified.
